Red Date Longan Tea

This red date longan tea is a cozy Chinese “tea” made with dried fruit, perfect for the cold winter months!

  • cup dried red dates
  • cup dried longan
  • 2.5 inch piece ginger peeled and roughly chopped, optional
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 8 cups water


  1. Add everything to a large pot and cover it.
  2. Place over medium to medium high heat, and let boil for 30-45 minutes, or until the longan are re-hydrated and the water is now brown in color. I’d recommend tasting at this point; add more sugar if you want a sweeter tea, or add some extra hot water to dilute if the tea is too strong.
  3. Remove the tea from the heat and serve hot.

Recipe Notes

You can strain out the dates, longan and ginger before serving if you would like.

Feel free to sub in rock sugar or even omit any added sugar.
