ignore any flurries outside, and treat yourself to a kahlua oreo mcflurry (everything you love about the usual oreo mcflurry, but with some coffee and kahlua for extra addictiveness!).
i was disinterested in alcohol for the majority of college. sure, i knew what absinthe was, had used sherry to deglaze maillard-y pans, grew up on chocolate kahlua cake. but it was so gross tasting to me that i didn’t see the point. my dad wanted to get me drunk at home pre-college so i would know my limits, though i had no desire to even get tipsy after i tried a sip of his screwdriver. blech.
something happened after i turned 21. it got exciting to go out for drinks, to take a few sips of my friends’ passion fruit, strawberry, kiwi swirled frozen margaritas. vanilla ice cream floats with orange smirnoff ice became my new party trick, until i switched to making my new favorite: the kahlua oreo mcflurry.
to make a mcflurry at home, you basically want to make a really thick milkshake which is mostly ice cream, with only a splash of milk.
a heavy duty blender is key, since it lets you use straight from the freezer ice cream and as little milk as possible. this also helps crush up the cookies into manageable bites.
you could use just kahlua, but i also like to add a bit of ground coffee to amp up the flavor.
i like a gentle 1 teaspoon kahlua, but add more as you see fit. some of my friends like their mcflurries less of a mcflurry texture, and closer to soup.
either way, you get the crunch of the oreos and a really creamy, decadent vanilla ice cream-based milkshake like the original. the ground coffee and kahlua add a hint of bitter, a hint of booze to cut through some of the sweetness from the rest of the milkshake.

- 1 ½ cups ice cream softened slightly
- a splash of milk cold
- ½ teaspoon ground coffee
- 1 teaspoon Kahlua
- ½ cup Oreos crushed
-
Place the ice cream, milk, ground coffee, Kahlua and half of the Oreos into a blender. Blend for 15-30 seconds, or until the McFlurry is mixed and thick. Stir in the rest of the Oreos and serve immediately.
i’m trying to be better about planning out my photoshoots (especially for time-sensitive foods, ie this kahlua oreo mcflurry because you better bet it’s going to melt faster than you want it to), but i didn’t for this one. i was running around and didn’t love any of the pics i was taking, so i decided to put myself into it. but i was wearing a shirt with a BIGGG logo that i didn’t want in the picture, so then i grabbed a black tank top i just bought that day, but for whatever reason it made me look topless, so i ended up with this black longsleeve. yw.

I love that your Dad wanted you to get drunk at home first, haha! I feel like that's something my husband would do with our kids. The only problem with this drink is that I would drink too many! So yum.

haha and you can bet that he gave my younger brother this whole spiel and made him taste all the alcohol he had in the house too (;

I'm so gonna make this drink today for my kids (minus the kahlua, of course). They will totally love it and a heavy dose of kahlua for me to get through all the homework, 😀😀

a touch of coffee and they won't even know they're missing anything (; haha cheers to kahlua-y ice cream to help get through the homework!
